Mom Update, July 1, 2010, Thursday
Mom had a rather sleepy day today. She could be roused but never opened her eyes today. She did alot of her "eyebrow lifting" type of attempts at opening her eyes though. Mom occasionally moved her right arm and hand (brought it up to her face and cheek at one point), moved her mouth as if to speak a bit, made many faces when alert like grimace, annoyance, and even a smile at one point. The good news is that mom continued to move her left foot and ankle today--quite a bit. Her left arm is still swollen. I prop it up on a pillow to elevate it when I am there...though it frequently falls off the pillow. I will be making her a foam incline with sides to prop her hand and arm up in over the weekend. She responded to the peppermint smell the most today. I gave her an mani-pedi again today too. (Hey, if the doctorate and teaching don't work out---here's my new calling!). When I told her I was leaving, she held my hand tightly and pulled it toward her chest while she crinkled her forehead. The CNAs are hearing about what she is doing day to day and are asking about what new things she's done each day. They all relate that she is making steady progress and to keep up the good work. Her new roommate tends to blast her TV throughout the day...this isn't good for mom because the sound will become "white noise" or noise that gets assimilated into the environment as typical---in other words, she'll tune out the sound. If you are looking for something to pray for, in addition to her full recovery, pray that she will stop being anxious and fearful, and that she will be brave enough to face what is and really move forward with her progress. She is a remarkable person. Thanks for all the prayers sent her way. Every prayer, no matter how long, counts."How is it that you are sleeping? ARISE and call upon your God" Jonah 1:6
