Mom Update, July 15, 2010

Dear Friends,

Today mom was sleepy. It took a lot to get her going. We could get her eyes open when we shook her. Kathy Zaner came by to sit with dad and Ava and I. It was great to see her and it made the time that we spent with mom today special. Just think about how great mom is that all of our friends and family have come to support her and us!

We started out the day with her physical therapy that we do with her. She did move her head and right arm. She also moved both feet at times. We played music and sang. She does have a preference for certain songs and her facial expression changes. At one point she let out a breath of air which you could actually hear! Dad and I both looked at each other and said, "Did you hear that!" There were a lot of interruptions today and we had to leave the room quite a few times. Shelby came late today and was able to get mom to wipe her face 3x. She will often hold the towel to her face and turn her face back and forth to wipe it. Ava brought a book to read to her and read quite a few chapters. Mom seemed to enjoy the reading and turned her head toward Ava when she was reading. We also played the "house sounds" CD and there were a few sounds that she seemed to recognize. She would turn her head toward the sound and change her expression. We ended the evening with more reading.

A nurse came by tonight and asked about mom; what happened to her to get this way and when did it all happen. She said she only works a few days a week but always gets mom to take care of. She said that she is totally making progress and that she could see the difference each time she comes. She asked what we are doing with her!!! Long story!!! Oh yea, and yesterday Con's friend from work came by. I never met her before and she wanted to know what she could do if she were to come by!

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work. If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!"
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
