Mom Update, July 18, 2010, Sunday

Mom had a really tired, sleepy day today. She was coughing a lot as well and had a temp of 100 in the morning---please pray for her health. After an awesome 10 days, she was tired today. However, she still opened her eyes when shook and kept them open for 40 seconds at one point. She still moved her mouth and ankles and fingers and feet...even though she was sleepy--the ability was still present, only the frequency decreased. She yawned a lot today and appeared to take in air once as well. It also sounded like she snored briefly too! Dad added his cologne to the smells we use for olfactory stimulation...she responded to it well.

She was lucky to have many visitors today: Claudia, John, Florence Aubin, Terry, Dad, me, Donna, Aunt Peggy, Barbara, Gig, Suzanne, Rita, and Lenny!!! And every visit was naturally spread out over the course of the day, so she was never alone for long.

Dad's back hurts him very badly, so please pray for him and his back (he is still, naturally, so distraught over my mom---sometimes I don't know what's harder, looking at mom or looking at him?).

Though we ran many of her stimulation programs, and she mildly responded (if at all), the one thing she enjoyed the most today was her music on her IPOD with headphones time. She loves her music!!! During music time (today was Mozart), mom moved both feet (left MORE than right!!!), both hands (right more than left), her head from side to side, and her mouth kept moving and going. As she moved her right foot to the music, she did so in an unusual way---sort of in the shape of a cross, or as though conducting an orchestra in a 4/4 pattern!! She never did that before. Her feet moved side to side in addition to up and down and she alternated these movements as well as doing them together with both feet at the same time. At one point, she lifted her entire left arm and hand right off the pillow!!!

"Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation." Isaiah 12:2
