Hello Everyone,
Thanks for all the prayers---they worked! PTL!! We started the day with a call from the doctors at North Shore telling us to gather the family and hurry over to the hospital--that mom had taken a turn for the worst. Evidently, the problem was that she was "not responding at all." They ran an emergency CAT Scan with contrast dye. Here are the current details:
-CAT Scan shows good blood flow to the brain and no further insult/injury to the brain other than initial aneurysm
-Chest xray clear
-She is still running a temp on and off (today's went as high as 102)
-She has a bronchial infection (from tube from vent or whatever they don't know yet)
-She has a urinary tract infection (from catheter--common)
-Doctors don't know exact "bugs" yet that are infecting her, but started general antibiotics and are currently culturing the mucus and urine to determine exact type of infection
-All infections are treatable
-Infections can come on quite severely and suddenly
-Infections don't look like staph
-Nonresponsiveness happens but the cause is sometimes cerebral hemorrhaging, stroke, grand mal seizures...(mom had none thank God)
-Seems her unresponsiveness was not all neurological---but physical from fever from infections
-Looking into possibility of Trach later in week
-If she gets Trach--better for breathing (sleep apnea), better for no irritations...
-Blood work looks good
When I left tonight, Mom was able to move all limbs...(not great, but movement), still running temp but lower, looked more alert (yet eyes still closed), best news---she gave me a very irritated look with eyes closed and slowly jerked her head away from me when I was trying to wipe her mouth!!! She was disgusted with what I was doing---a good thing.
Keep praying...prayer works.
Love
Kathy
