Mom spoke today!!! Out loud!!! Her eyes were closed, but she actually spoke several times to me! Her voice was low but audible and it is also raspy, gravelly. This all occurred from 12-1:00 p.m. while she was still in her bed. I came into her room and she was peaceful looking and calm...looked really comfortable. I said hello as I always do while stroking her hair and then I told her I was going to wash her face (our routine---I wash her face, eyes, nose, ears...). As I began to wash her face and eyes and nose, she turned away from me slowly and said, "Leave me alone." I was stunned. I froze. Her eyes were closed but she talked!! I asked her if she just said what she did, but she didn't reply so I pulled myself together and continued with our routine. Next, I stroked her hair and leaned in close to her ear and said, "Hi Momma, hi, it's me, Kathy" over and over and then she said, "Heelllooo"!!! Eyes still closed. She was then silent so I waited and then said, "OK so let's do your physical therapy now...OK? Let's do your exercise, that sounds good, doesn't it?" and she said, "No." As I did her physical therapy, she said, "Ow" out loud too twice. Then I said, "Does that hurt mom?" and she said, "No" --- OK wrong answer, but developmentally, when children learn to speak, they say NO to everything before they use the word YES. Then later, I was rubbing her face with a soft, silky, stuffed animal and I said, "Feel how smooth that is?" She looked like she liked the feeling but as I repeated the phrase over again, she said, "No" This is sooo amazing!!!! PTL!!!!
She moved, but not much (this is the pattern...whenever she first does something new, she only predominantly does that and nothing else...sensory integration?). She opened her eyes 3 times for me just a slit and opened them widely for dad several times.
Her blood sugar was good, but her CO2 levels went into the 40s yesterday so they raised the vent from RATE 12 to 14 again...however, by 3:00 p.m., her CO2 level was in the 30s which is good. Dad said that they gave her a chest xray this early evening---no results yet.
Keep praying for her to breath on her own and to become more alert!!! Thanks! xxxxooo
