Mom moved around as usual today but not with the same momentum as Monday...sort of slow motion movement like under water again today. She likes to "hang on to" the trach line--- a sometimes dangerous thing to do (she pulled it off the trach hole attachment in her throat 2 xs! Scary!!!). No matter how much you try to get her to let go of the trach line or to not even grab for it in the first place, she does. She even began to "sneak" in order to grab it today!! While she held the small, red, plastic barbell that dad bought for her (we thought of placing something else in her hand instead of the trach line), she tried to grab the trach line anyway but with only 2 fingers!! My theory is that she holds it as a form of security, while dad thinks she doesn't like the trach and is trying to pull it out.
In any event, Ava reported that while she, dad, Aunt Carol, Jean and Lenny visited mom today, mom brought her right arm and hand to her left side while holding the red barbell and tried to open her right hand with her left hand in order to switch the barbell from one hand to the other!!! This is amazing motor planning in the works---which is great!
Claudia, Aunt Carol and I visited her again this evening and just hugged her, stroked her, talked to her, laughed with her---made her one of the girls as we gathered together around her bed...another memorable moment with mom.
