Three months ago, mom had the aneurysm burst. But...mom had a great day today!!! Her eyes were open for most of the day! Dad and Anthony said that, in addition to her eyes being open, she even moved her left arm quite a bit and said, "What?" audibly when they called her. After they left, the recreation therapist stopped in to see mom and she left us a note in mom's "Love Notes for Dotty" book saying that, as she talked to mom about how mom must have thought that the drumming circle at the recreation room 2 weeks ago must have been terrible compared to mom's choir at church, mom replied, "YUP!" I arrived later in the afternoon and mom had her eyes open a lot (the longest time was 3 minutes). She would open her eyes widely and look at me and/or all around the room or track me with her eyes. She also looked at objects I held in front of her face/eyes and tracked them too. She would close her eyes for up to 35 seconds and then open them for a longer period of time again. Dad and Aunt Carol visited later and mom opened her eyes a lot then too (they left around 8:00 p.m. or so. We didn't see any doctors to find out if she is off any additional medications yet or not but will find out sometime this week. Claudia returns to work tomorrow---which is a loss of much help with mom (she took over my early morning visits to mom this last month or so). I begin work next week. Dad agreed to come upstate with Lenny and I this weekend. I hope he is able to relax a bit up there (us too!). I am feeling overwhelmed this week. Mom's roommate from a few weeks ago is back (the large woman who seemed mentally ill). The woman was very quiet all day and night so far....pray for her but also that she doesn't bother mom in any negative way.
