Mom Update, September 2, 2010, Thursday

When Claudia visited mom early this morning to do her physical therapy, she said that mom was pretty alert (eyes open). The respiratory therapist talked to Claudia about mom's vent because Claudia realized that there was an air leak in it (not critical but needs to be fixed). The therapist didn't think Claudia knew what she was talking about but, as we all know, he doesn't know the Claudia we all know!!! She knows her stuff!! (and much of everyone else's too!!). So, much to his surprise (not ours), she was right; there was a leak!! He told her to let a therapist know if it happened again and he also showed her what the therapist's need to do to fix it. Anthony came in the late morning and did mom's physical therapy and talked to her (he's so good at that! Sometimes I find it hard to talk to someone who doesn't always respond). [Also...mom's hearing aids were nowhere to be found this morning!!]. Dad came in the early afternoon and visited with mom. Mom had her eyes open on and off but not as much as yesterday. I saw mom in the later afternoon and did her physical therapy. The vent was leaking air again but the therapist on duty didn't think it was a problem. The pieces of the vent tubing were eventually changed and all the leaking sound was gone. Con, Anthony Michael, Sammy, and Dad visited mom tonight and Sammy said she was mostly sleepy (opened eyes 3 times). No news on the medication yet...as to which ones she is still on and which she is off. If anyone knows any respiratory therapists, I would love to talk to one in order to find out exactly how the weaning process works as well as how to read the charts and machine so we can keep track of the progress ourselves as well.

"He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person." Genesis 2:7
