Claudia began the day with mom early this morning before work and said that mom was very sleepy this morning. Though she didn't open her eyes during physical therapy, she reacted to Claudia by pulling her left hand away and jerking her foot away from Claudia and moving her leg off the bed by bending her knee.
Anthony saw mom next in the late morning. He talked with her and did her 2nd round of physical therapy. He said that she used her left hand on and off and that she kissed him hello and gave him a partial hug. She touched his face and looked at him when he spoke. She also rested her hand on his shoulder. Her mood seemed better and she appeared to be more rested as well (no more noisy roommate). When I saw dad later he said that her whole demeanor was better today!!
Dad joined Anthony next and they both talked to mom and watched TV. Dad said she tracked each person as he talked and seemed to appear to be trying to follow the conversation.
The speech therapist came to work with mom as did the occupational therapist and physical therapist. The occupational therapist is trying to get mom to sit straight in her chair (not reclined) and said mom does well. I have noticed that mom has been trying to lift herself up off the bed or chair at times using her upper body near her neck and shoulders. She is getting stronger.
I came in the mid afternoon but mom was sleeping (she had just finished therapy). Dad and I let her rest. After dinner, Lenny and I joined dad at mom's again. She was wide awake and obviously adoring dad---holding his hand, kissing his hand, staring at him, smiling at him. She looked intently at Lenny as he told her about college and that Suzanne is one of his teachers (Mom lifted her eyebrows way up in surprise and happiness at that news). He told her about an narrative essay he wrote about her for his English class and she just touched him and stroked his beard and stared at him as he talked (once in a while she'd turn from him momentarily but he'd call her attention back on him again). She still isn't happy with me though!! I guess I am the task master in her eyes!! She will even turn toward the wall sometimes when I talk to her!! Sometimes it is as if she is a little kid with the way she acts!! Sometimes this is cute and funny to me, but other times, when I am tired, this hurts.
Everyone at the facility continues to talk about the strides she has made and continues to make daily!! She is a miracle. I am glad that she is enjoying her new room so much. Her new roommate is very quiet.
