Mom Update, September 5, 2010, Sunday

Hi Everyone,

I am going to try to send the update through Kathy's email so here goes. Anthony, Con, Terry and the kids visited mom early in the morning. She had her eyes opened and it was hard to leave so they stayed a long time. It is getting harder to leave when she is so "wide eyed". They did her physical therapy. Later in the day Mom's friend Maureen visited and wrote in the book that it was great to see her eyes opened. Donna came next to do therapy but by this time mom was sleepy. She opened her eyes but for very short times. By the time I got there she was sleepy. She also opened her eyes for very short intervals. She did not respond to commands yesterday although she did purposeful movements with her hand. She has been rubbing her right eye and we are keeping "an eye" (no pun intended) on it to see why she is rubbing it. She touched her glasses to push them on her face better. She also has been "exploring" her face with her hand touching her nose and wiping her mouth. Donna did report that when mom opened her eyes and saw Donna doing physical therapy, Donna told her what she was doing and a tear trickled down mom's cheek. I brought one of mom's favorite old movies with me and I watched it with her. She had her eyes closed tight as if on purpose but seemed to be listening. She startled a few times when I touched her hand or leg while sitting next to her as if I woke her up. I guess the sensory system is beginning to make sense of gaging intensity of touch. It is as if we are watching a child more through the development process, exploring her face, tracking with her eyes, etc. I tucked mom in for the night and as I was leaving she opened her eyes wide. I couldn't leave her so I I "snuggled" by her and spoke softly until she fell asleep.

Keep praying and Peace to all,

Where there is life there is hope!

Claudia
