Mom Update, October 6, 2010, Wednesday

Claudia saw mom this morning and she was sleepy.

Mom was sleeping when Dad and Anthony visited this afternoon and when she woke up, the recreation therapist asked her if she wanted to go listen to the concert on an organ. Mom said, "Yes" and they brought her there. Mom was very happy and smiley and Anthony had her laughing. Mom was laughing hysterically at Anthony and his jokes. The therapist asked her if she enjoyed it, and mom said, "Yes." Dad said that mom was talking a lot but low talking so it wasn't always easy to understand what she was saying.

Con and the kids went to see her with Dad tonight. Con was singing for her and mom smirked at her. Con started clapping at something later on, and then mom put her hands together and started clapping too!!!!! She hasn't clapped in 4 months!!!! Then later, as Con was singing again to mom, Anthony Michael was doing the crazy sign and mom copied him!!! Con asked mom if she was her favorite daughter-in-law and mom said, "Yes." Samantha recorded everything mom said while they visited. She said, "Samantha" 1x, "Anthony Michael" 1x, "No" 4xs, "What" "It's OK" "OK" and "Sam Study" 1x each and Nothing" and "Yes" 2xs.

Everyone did her physical therapy and cognitive therapy. Even though the speech therapist canceled speech therapy on Monday, she was there working with mom today and reported that mom was repeating words for her.

On a bit of a down side, mom's vent was put back from 8 to 10 again...she is still in the middle range/level though, so that's good. Pray she begins to breathe on her own. Sometimes I wonder how that can happen at all when I see how badly she is positioned in the bed...no one could breathe at the angles they leave her.

When I came to see mom late tonight, she was all cockeyed in the bed!! Her head was down low and off to the left side rail, her legs were moved around and spread out, her body was diagonal in the bed too and her food line was disconnected from her G-Tube---at first, I brought the head night nurse in to see her like this and he gathered all the CNAs to show them and tell them to fix her. Dad and Con and the kids had just left mom 2 hours earlier. Claudia and I are wondering if mom is beginning to move around more??!!!!! The CNAs claim that she is moving and that they originally had her set up correctly in the bed. I hope she is moving more!!!

"Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD." Psalm 150:6
