Mom Update, November 18, 2010, Thursday

Claudia started the day with mom today. She was awake, smiling, wide eyed and ready to visit. Claudia did her lower body physical therapy. Claudia cleaned her hearing aids really well and her glasses too. They read the “Getting Better” social story about the things she needs to do to get better. Then she set up her lap desk on the bed and gave her 2 magazines, the sewing card, the dot to dot with the pencil (mom started it).
Dad came next and the physical therapist came and worked with mom. Dad said that mom only moved her right leg (lifted it to hit the therapist’s hand) 5 times and her left leg 1 time. The therapist said not to worry though and that he’d be back tomorrow. JoAnn came to join mom and dad next and worked with mom all afternoon. At one point, a therapist came into the room and was talking to mom but mom wasn’t responding so dad told mom to respond and he kept calling to her and mom turned to him and said, “WHAT?” in an annoyed way (so like the old mom we know and love!!) and the therapist commented, “Boy, you guys must be married a long time!” They all laughed! Later, JoAnn was working with mom and told her to do something and mom took off her glasses and used them as an extension of her own hand so that she could reach to swat JoAnn!!! They all laughed again!!! JoAnn had mom doing the sewing cards, read book, ripping paper, wooden puzzles, and the pom poms with the tweezers one at a time. Mom even sewing 3 of the sewing buttons together!! Mom even slid all the plastic buttons into the slot on the container as well.
John came to see mom later in the afternoon and evening and did a full physical therapy with her. They looked at a picture book together and did the sewing cards. Mom fell asleep while John was doing the physical therapy on her feet.
Lenny saw mom this evening and she was wide awake. They looked at TV and talked for a while together. Lenny said he talked and mom listened. He got her ready for bed tonight and tucked her in and prayed with her.
“Oh Lord, teach me knowledge and good judgement, for I believe in your commands.” Psalm 119:66
