Early Thanksgiving Morning: Claudia just called to say that the CNA took a long time preparing mom today for Thanksgiving Day. She asked Claudia for make up and they primped mom and put make up on mom too. Everyone was running into mom’s room to see how she looked and to make sure that she was ready for the day. The Head Nurse came into mom’s room too to make sure that mom looked “beautiful for her family today,” she also oversaw the cleaning of the room that we are taking mom to today to celebrate. Claudia said that mom was tired afterwards and seemed to want to rest after she did her physical therapy. Later, when Claudia talked to Con, Con said that she had a dream last night that mom was sitting in her bed all made up and that mom said, “I’m back.”
Midday: We all gathered together with mom in the recreation room. We reserved the room for Thanksgiving. We all started the day in a circle, holding hands, saying a prayer. Lenny said the prayer. We had some sandwiches and snacks. We all sang while listening to the IPAD (Sound of Music, BJ Thomas, The Beatles, The Monkees…). While we were singing, mom said, “We’re all singing.” We played games (Hit or Miss, Scatergories, cards…). Mom sat with us at the table and was Claudia’s teammate. Mom was so alert and present the whole day. We all sat together and watched movies as we usually do (Moonstruck, one of mom’s favorites). Mom spent some time holding and reading a card from Laura and Barry and the kids (she actually read all the words inside and out). Later in the evening, a man with a guitar came to the room and had us sing as he played. We all laughed and played and sang together and had a great holiday.
This Thanksgiving, our family gives our heartfelt thanks to everyone who prayed for us these last months. We are grateful to all our friends and family whose steadfast love and prayers have seen us through this trying time in our lives. Mom is as healthy and functional as she is today because of what the Lord has done. We thank God that we were all together again this holiday and we pray for many more happy times to come. Know that all of you are in our prayers as well.
All Our Love Kathy, Lenny, Dad, Claudia, John, Ava, Jean, Anthony, Con, Anthony Michael, Samantha, Terry, and of course, Dotty
