Mom Update, November 29, 2010, Monday

Claudia began the day with mom and said that mom was smiley, and happy to see her. Claudia bought her a small piggy squeeze toy whose eyes bulge out when you squeeze it. She showed mom and mom laughed then mom tried it herself--when mom squeezed the piggy and its eyes bulged out mom laughed again and said, "Eyes pop out!" Claudia did mom's full physical therapy/range of motion exercise and then worked on getting mom to move her legs using the 10 inch ball under her knee. Mom lifted her right leg 8 times and her left leg 4 times. When Claudia left for work, mom said, "You're goin?" and when Claudia said yes, mom said, "Don't go." While this is great in one respect, it hurts in another. Claudia called Anthony and told him what mom said and he dropped what he was doing and came to spend time with her. He said that she wasn't in the mood to do any work---wouldn't do the pom poms and tweezers, the paper clips, the sewing card..but was in a really great mood and happy. She just watched him as he talked to her and skimmed through a magazine. I have been talking to mom about entering into God's rest---and about how busy she always was before this all happened to her and how this can be a time now to rest finally. To enter in God's perfect rest perhaps---spiritually, mentally and physically. Relax and rest and be still with God. Maybe she is starting to do this in some small way? The physical therapist came to see mom while Dad and Anthony were there and he lifted her up from her chair in a bear hug hold to stand her up---he said she wasn't really bearing too much, if any, weight on her feet but that is OK. He tried this twice. He assured the guys that mom will get there soon. He also had her stand using the harness and mom stood 5 minutes straight which is a record for her!!! Anthony said that mom lifted her right leg 4 times and her left one slightly once or twice. Dad stayed with mom until after dinner time and he said mom slept a lot after physical therapy. I came to see mom this evening and we talked and watched TV a bit and she grabbed my hand as soon as I arrived---really purposefully! I don't remember if I mentioned it or not yesterday but each time mom completed a task yesterday, she looked at me with a face of satisfaction with a slight smile as if to seek my approval and also show me what she did. We prayed for awhile before I left and I tucked her in for the night.

"Wait with hope for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart be courageous. Yes, wait with hope for the LORD." Psalm 27:14
