Mom Update, November 6, 2010, Saturday

Lenny began mom’s day today and got her ready for the day. He washed her face and eyes, put her hearing aids in and her glasses on. When Lenny was doing mom’s physical therapy, mom began to shake the arm he was working on with her. Lenny asked her, “What Nonny?” and she replied, “Don’t push it!” she kept fixating on her piggies and then asked Lenny to “Push it” meaning its head because it squeaks when you do. Then Lenny said, “What is this?” and she kept saying, “I don’t know” but in a sarcastic and funny way---like she was playing with Lenny. Then he turned on the TV to the cooking channel. Someone was cooking a veggie in a frying pan and Lenny said, “What is that they’re cooking Nonny?” and she said, “Zucchini” and he said, “Yeah! Good job!” and then she gave him a “thumbs up.”
Anthony, Con, Anthony Michael, Sammy, Terry and Dad said that mom basically just relaxed today. They did her full physical therapy several times during the day and sat and talked and watched TV. They said she was quiet and didn’t do any work or reading, but she sewed a little with the sewing cards. Uncle Ray and Aunt Irene came to see mom today. She tried to talk to Aunt Irene a few times. Uncle Ray sang to mom and they all enjoyed a wonderful visit with mom.
Claudia and I brought back many whistles and sensory toys for mom’s therapy. The Autism Symposium in Canada was fabulous!! Very interesting. My presentation went well too. We learned a lot and were reinforced in many ways too. Dad called me in Toronto on Wednesday to make phone calls to the Building Administrator about them moving mom’s room. I called him, the Admissions person, the social worker. The saga continued into Thursday with our involvement from Canada too. They moved mom’s room but the guys had them paint the room and polish the floors before the move. Also, while we were away, Lenny called on Thursday after a visit to the oral surgeon (wisdom teeth to be pulled in the near future) to say that the oral surgeon spotted a lump in his jaw while x-raying his teeth that needs to be CAT Scanned. He goes for the CAT Scan on November 16. Please pray for him…that all will be well. The surgeon said that it has to be removed.
John and Claudia played catch with mom with a large 12” exercise ball. We were all together this evening…the whole family with mom. We all talked and laughed and John managed to get mom to belly laugh a few times. But basically, mom was very, very quiet and didn’t have much to say. She watched us all but didn’t even smile.
After everyone went home, Lenny and I stayed with mom and watched TV for a while—she looked a little more awake and alive at that point. Then, we tucked her in, dimmed the lights, set the TV timer, and prayed together.
“If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me, you can do nothing.” John 15:5
