Claudia couldn’t get to mom this morning because of the icy roads. Also, Claudia seems to have lost her voice as of last night…so please say a special prayer for her. Mom was out like a light for most of the day up until about 2:30. Anthony came mid morning and found her asleep and she stayed asleep throughout his whole visit. He even tried to open her eyes (this sometimes helps her to open them) but she didn’t keep them open…she went back out asleep. Anthony did her range of motion/physical therapy exercises. When I came this afternoon, mom was in the recreation room and the drums were playing loudly (about 4 other people were in the room playing drums to the music) and she was sound asleep!!!! I tried to wake for about 30 minutes and then she finally woke up but she was quiet and still and just stared a lot. Dad and I sang to her and the recreation therapists played the drums for her. When we moved back into her room, she was still rather still and quiet. She may have been up all night. Dad worked with the orange scrunchy tube to do arm exercises. Mom was not really responsive though so we put the headphones on her and let her listen to and watch “The Electric Company.” Mom fell asleep on and off during the show though. John and Dad were with mom for a while after I left and when I returned, they were still there but mom was in bed and still asleep, doing that squinty thing with her eyes and grimacing facial expressions on and off. After a while, I opened one of her eyes and she looked right at me and gave me a huge smile! I opened her other eye and she was smiling and so happy looking. I left and John and dad did her full range of motion exercises and showed her the pictures that Carmine uses with her. They said that mom seemed to mouth a lot of things during their interactions with her, but they couldn’t understand her. John left and dad stayed a while and then got mom ready for bed early due to the icy roads. Mom’s CNA told us today that mom was wide awake last night at 11:00 p.m.!!! It seems her days and nights are mixed up again.
