Claudia and John began the day with mom this morning. They did mom’s range of motion/physical therapy exercises and talked and laughed a lot. John had her laughing alot. Mom also used the squishy balls to exercise her hands while they were there. John held one end and spun it and mom held her hand against it. They left them on the tray and she would occasionally pick them up and squeeze them. They tried to do a crossword with mom but she only got 2 words: the clue was, "Employees last words" answer “quit” and the second clue was, "A spring month beginning with 'A'" answer “April.” Claudia's approach to the crossword was to write the clues and have mom read them along with a line for each of the answer's letters. They filled in one letter then another then another and mom read the answer. My approach was to read everything aloud without any visuals at all. I also would sometimes skip a word that she couldn't guess and go back to it. Anthony and Anthony Michael came next and talked to mom and watched TV. They worked on mom’s legs. Claudia said that mom lifted her right leg off the bed but it took a long time for her to do it. Mom fell asleep for a while then woke and was relaxed and quiet but in a good mood. Dad and Flo, Marty, and Maureen came to see mom next. They all talked while mom listened. Terry joined the visitors next. Mom helped Maureen sing Happy Birthday (it is Maureen’s birthday today!! Happy Birthday Maureen!). Mom also laughed when they told a story about the guys playing golf years ago. Lenny and I joined dad after everyone else left. Dad and Lenny did mom’s full physical therapy/ range of motion exercises. Lenny talked to mom and told her all about college. Then Lenny put his head on mom’s bed beside her and fell asleep as mom stroked his hair. Mom was tired by this time. She didn’t have anything to say…wouldn’t talk…almost couldn’t from being tired. She would nod off at times for a few minutes and then wake up again. Lenny and I took dad out to eat. When we returned, mom was still fast asleep so we tucked her in for the night.
"If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Philippians 2:1-2
