Mom Update, February 28, 2011, Monday

Hi everyone,

Dad started the day with mom. I had a 7:30 appt. so I couldn't get there and back in time. Dad said she was in a good mood. Dad came back later in the day with Aunt Sophie. Aunt Sophie is going home tomorrow so she want to see mom before she left. Anthony came today also. He did PT with mom and she was sleepy. She slept a little bit and woke when dad and Aunt Sophie came. Dad and Anth tried to do the orange pom poms with the tweezer. She moved them around with her hand but didn't use the tweezer. Anthony felt she didn't have the strength to squeeze them today. Mom was reaching for the remote because the TV wasn't on. Anthony gave her the remote and asked her to push the red button. He helped her hand over hand to turn on the TV. Dad dropped off Aunt Sophie and came back in the evening. I stopped by after class. Dad and I talked to mom and then dad left and I had mom do the pop beads using her two hands. She pulled them apart! We did this a few times. I then tried to get her to put the paper clips on the colored cards. She couldn't do it. I then had her remove the clips and put them in the bag. She was able to remove all 4 clips with me holding the card and tilting the card to make it easier. I tried the nuts and bolts but she couldn't do it. Kathy came by to visit for a while. We both talked to mom and at one point we were on either side of her snuggling. I miss her hugs. Kathy left and mom started to look like she was in pain. The nurse came in and said she had gas. I asked her and she said yes. The nurse put a syringe in her feeding tube to push the remaining food into her stomach and then took out the syringe and place the end of the tube in a container. You could hear the air coming out of her stomach. It was wild. He did this a few more times and mom seemed to settle down until another wave of gas hit. He came back in and placed pillows under her side to get the pressure off her back. He then gave her tylenol. He put a call in to the physician to get a scrip for Mylanta or prilosec to alleviate the gas. I stayed with her until she settled down and fell asleep. The nurse and her CNA both said that they would keep an eye on her and take care of her. I hated to leave but it was getting late.

Thank you for all your prayers and kind thoughts for my mom and my family.

Peace and Love,

Claud
