Anthony, Con and Sammy started the day with mom. Mom was awake and in her chair. She was in a good mood and smiling a lot. She had an omelet with bacon, buttered white toast, and vanilla milk. Anthony did her physical therapy/range of motion exercises. He also worked on mom’s legs and had her doing a bicycle motion by holding her feet in his hands and pedaling (he did the movement, not mom—she couldn’t do it alone). They talked and I am sure that Anthony had mom laughing at one point or another too. Dad came to see mom too. He assisted Anthony with some of Mom’s physical therapy/range of motion exercises. Mom ate turkey with gravy, stuffing, carrots, and juice for lunch. After lunch, mom slept for about 20 minutes and then woke. Terry came to see mom too. They all watched a funny movie next, “The Great Outdoors.” Mom laughed at some of the parts of the movie. She kept falling asleep on and off. I came after Anth and Con and Sammy had just left—just missed them. Dad said that the respiratory therapist said that mom is doing really well with her breathing. The anti-biotic is helping her a lot (as per the respiratory person). I did all the various oral motor exercises with mom that Carmine showed us how to do. Mom pushed into all the cheek, chin and upper lip exercises nicely. She kept trying to close her mouth and bite the sponge on the stick. The CNA came to put mom into bed. After mom was in bed, I tried to do some of a crossword puzzle with her but she kept falling asleep. She independently drank from the cup that dad bought for her a lot today. Dad bought some hard, plastic cups for mom to use when drinking…similar to what a toddler or preschooler would use. These cups make all the difference for mom. At times she drinks from them with a straw, while at other times, she drinks without the straw. I did mom’s full physical therapy/range of motion exercises while she slept---she woke up in the middle of it. I also gave mom a manicure and pedicure as well..Mom had some ziti, garlic bread, mixed vegetables, vanilla milk, juice and peaches. The aide who came to feed her was someone new – he looked like he was Anthony-Michael’s age-15!!! Hahaha! He shoveled the first fork full of ziti in…and spilled a lot all over mom. I gently showed him how to cut the food and told him why it was necessary to do so. I complimented him for his attempts as soon as I could so he would do the job well…and it worked. I played some classical music as she ate. When Claudia came this evening to be with mom, dad and I went to dinner together (we celebrated a happy event at work for me!). Claudia said she tried to interact with mom, but mom was very sleepy. Mom finally was able to choose MASH from a spread of 3 DVDs so Claudia put it on. They watched it and laughed and held hands...then mom fell asleep. Claudia tucked her in for the night.
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God." 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
