Mom Update, March 29, 2011, Tuesday

Dad began the day with mom this morning. Lenny and Claudia are both sick with a really bad stomach bug. Please keep them both in prayer. Mom ate all her breakfast by having the aide put the food onto the fork and then mom took the fork and ate herself. They didn't understand how to move the table close to the bed so that the tray of food would be close enough for mom to feed herself. Mom was in a good mood, but Anthony said that, by 10:00 when he arrived, mom was out like a light and could not be woken up at all by anyone. She didn't even wake up to eat lunch. She just slept very, very soundly. They got the nurse practitioner came in to examine her and her vitals were fine. He took blood, urine, and did a chest x-ray to determine why she was so sleepy and out of it. Dad said maybe it is mom's blood pressure medication because even though she has been on it for a while now, mom's pattern with medication is that she sometimes reacts to medications after a while. The nurse practitioner put in an order for a sleep study where the evening aides record whether mom is awake or asleep during the night. The infectious disease doctor will also come to be sure that the antibiotic she just finished yesterday was the right one. Mom seemed to have gone to sleep after she had her blood pressure medication and the lasix.

John and Ava came to see mom tonight and said that she was still in her chair and out like a light still. Once she was moved to her bed, she woke up a bit. She ate a full dinner but had to be fed because she was so tired. At one point, John and Ava laughed at something and mom laughed because they did. They did her full physical therapy/range of motion exercises. John asked her to wiggle her toes and she did it a few times but hardly at all. She gave one word responses to Ava. They said that mom was very lethargic and tired the whole time they were there. They tried hard to keep her awake but couldn't...rubbed her feet, talked...nothing worked. She appeared interested all day but just plain unable to keep her eyes open. One of my friends wondered if they gave her insulin again??? Dad was going to ask what medications she is on again. John and Ava tucked her in and prayed over her and left.

Mom's neurologist appointment is tomorrow. I don't know if this is a good or bad thing. Part of me wants her awake and alert and showing off all she can do. The other part of me hopes he can tell us what is wrong...

I place her in God's Hands.

"And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God." Romans 5:2
