Claudia began the day with mom this morning and got her washed up, glasses and hearing aids on…and did her full physical therapy/range of motion exercises. While she worked with mom, she played the excerpts of Jean singing and acting in his show yesterday, “Beauty and the Beast.” Jean stole the show!! He was awesome!! When she got there, mom was sleeping but mom got her up and fixed and straightened her in the bed. Claudia did extra on mom's hands again because they are tight lately. Claudia said mom was great and awake and alert.
Dad came next and he said that mom slept almost all day. Mom had French Toast for breakfast and juice. For lunch, mom had pork and vegetables and juice and mom ate a lot again. Her nurse fed her today. They all said that mom is doing great with eating. Mom’s vent is still on 8 but they lowered her PSV from 12 to 10. Again, this indicates mom’s ability to initiate breaths on her own. She is doing well so far.
When I came to see mom this afternoon, she was sleeping. I raised her eyelids and she stared at me but then she closed her eyes and went back to sleep. The CNA came to put her into bed and she was awake then but very quiet. Dad and I did her full physical therapy/range of motion exercises again. Dad said mom moved her left foot a lot today. Dad asked mom to stick her tongue out and she did. Mom ate dinner tonight. Mom’s nurse fed her dinner tonight. Usually the CNAs do the feeding. At one point, the nurse needed to leave the room and asked me to finish feeding mom her pudding. I tried to give her the first spoonful but mom grabbed at my hand and pushed it away. I thought she was finished but, when I let go of the spoon, she grabbed the spoon and stuck it in the container of pudding. She tried to feed herself pudding with a metal spoon (a large soup spoon size) and she did well. She purposefully put the spoon into the container of pudding, scooped, and put the spoon into her mouth. Then, mom held the cup and sucked through the straw to drink thickened milk independently. She ate broccoli and stuffed shells and a part of a dinner roll. After dinner, we just sat and relaxed and watched TV so mom could digest.
Claudia went to tuck mom in tonight. Mom was laying there with her eyes tightly shut, but Claudia opened her eyes and mom was awake---she looked surprised to see Claudia. Claudia did her physical therapy again. She left some of mom's stuffed animal piggies on her lap (the blue squeeze ball, the fuzzy circular thing, the plastic piggy too) and mom would hand her an item and make mom reach for the item either out straight or across her body or wherever. Then, mom fell asleep and Claudia tucked her in for the night.
“But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength; Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning,” Psalm 59:16
