Mom Update, April 20, 2011, Wednesday

First, let me say that I included the Stuffed French Toast recipe at the bottom of this post due to the fact that so many of you have written that you want a copy!! Mange!!

Lenny began the day with mom and found her to be sleepy the entire 2 1/2 hours he was with her. He did her physical therapy/range of motion exercises twice while he was there. He said that she would wake up and look around and say a few words, but then would go back to sleep and this repeated awake and asleep through his whole visit.

Dad came next to be with mom but I couldn't get hold of him by phone all day and evening (he is a volunteer fireman these last 54 years so he may have been at a meeting). I will get the "low down" on mom from him tomorrow when I see him. Today was dad's birthday. Thanks for all the prayers for him. Ooops! Dad just called me now. Mom was on and off the vent again today. The head of respiratory put her back on the vent this morning because the therapist said there was a pause in her breathing. But the head of respiratory told dad that mom would be put back on CPAP mode in the afternoon (and did so). The therapist said that if mom fell asleep, she goes back on the vent. Mom has slept during the day and stayed on CPAP mode just fine in the past...this is something new. The therapist said mom falls into a deep sleep and this is why she must go back on the vent when she sleeps. Again, this doesn't make sense at all to me. Whatever. Mom had macaroni and cheese and other things for dinner (dad couldn't remember). He said she was hungry and looking for more food at the end of dinner. He said she gave him a big smile and kissed him and talked a bit. Dad tried to get mom to do the hand held bicycle to exercise her arms but it was difficult to do with only one person because we need to hold her hands onto the machine as she works. He exercised her and did her physical therapy/range of motion on and off all day.

John came to see mom this afternoon and evening. He stayed with her a long while. They talked and watched TV. He put the pregame of the METS game on for her. She told him she loved him twice and he told her too. He did her full physical therapy/range of motion exercises and massaged her feet really well too. He tried to get her to do some activities but she was awake, but tired so she wouldn't do any. They joked a bit too. John tucked her in and prepared her for the night and said a prayer and left.

"Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice." Psalm 32:11
