Hi Everyone,
I started the morning with mom today. She said "Good Morning" when I said good morning. I was able to really able to get all of her PT done before breakfast. I was able to work her legs really good. I even put the ball under her knee but lifted her leg for her and had her try to help me count. I then helped her eat breakfast. She ate everything. She has had a great appetite lately! While I was there they had a fire drill and I had to stay in the room with the door closed. I ended up being late to work! (Oh Well) Everyone has been so understanding, thank God. Next, Anthony came to be with mom. He said she was quiet today. He said she was awake and watching TV when he came. He talked to mom and then lunch came. She ate most of her lunch and fell asleep. He was able to work her legs. She pushed her legs down against his pushing and she also moved her feet.
Dad drove Aunt Sophie home to New Jersey and then came to see mom. He was there when I arrived in the evening. They were holding hands and watching TV. Mom didn't have her hearing aide in and we looked all over. It was in her wheel chair. A colleague of mine gave me a deck of cards - a memory game of common everyday objects. Dad and I placed 12 cards down at a time and played memory with her. Dad is so cute, he would pick up two cards and put them down without showing mom. I had to tell him we were playing for her benefit and let her label the objects. He was very tired. She was able to label most cards - they had a picture and the word on them. She is pretty good at reading. I showed her a picture of a tub and she said "shower". I said right but it is also a "tub" say "tub". Dad was kidding around with her and said it was a "Scrubba Dupa" (bottom in Ukranian). So I said don't confuse her. I asked mom what is it and she said, "Scrubba Dupa" repeating what dad said! Dad laughed and she smiled. Dad leaned in to mom and said, "I love you" and mom said, "I love you too." This made dad soooooo happy. He was grinning from ear to ear. Many times my mom doesn't respond to dad and he gets hurt. I also asked who he was and today she said, "Daddy." A few days ago she wouldn't say who he was. Dad was sooooo happy.
We played memory for a long time and then the respiratory therapist came to take numbers and change her tubing. Dad and I lifted mom in the bed because she was tilting to one side. We made her all comfortable for the night. We tucked her in and said a prayer. We said the "Our Father" and mom said it with us. We said the "Hail Mary" but mom didn't seem to remember that prayer.
Peace and Love to all,
Claudia
