Lenny began the day with mom this morning. He found her asleep and then she’d wake up, then sleep, then wake up…cyclically. When her nurse came in to give mom her medication (blood pressure), mom was asleep and wouldn’t respond or wake up at all. The nurse became alarmed and sent for the doctor. In the meantime, mom’s CNAs came into the room to try to wake her too. One CNA could not get mom to respond. The other one did---the CNA rubbed mom’s belly and mom grabbed the CNA’s hand. The physician’s assistant came to see mom and he said that he thought she was just sleeping and was OK, but he checked her out and ordered blood work and a chest x-ray just to be sure mom is indeed OK and doesn't have an infection. Lenny said that, once mom woke, she was very alert and talkative. She said, "Good morning" and answered, "Good" to how are you. Lenny told her he was at the Javitz Center in NYC during the weekend and he asked her who Jacob Javitz was and she began to answer, "He was..." but began to cough and lost her train of thought. He did her full physical therapy/range of motion exercises. They looked at pictures and she asked him for dad's picture so he gave it to her. Mom held the picture tightly and then fell back to sleep again. Lenny pointed to all the pictures on the wall and named everyone for her when she woke up. When she woke up, she would talk again.
Anthony said that one of mom’s mitts was off when he arrived today. Either it wasn’t put on correctly or she was able to get it off on her own. He and dad did mom’s full physical therapy/range of motion exercises but then they worked on her legs. Dad said that mom moved her feet and also lifted both legs a bit again also!! Dad said that mom fell asleep for an hour after Anthony left. When she woke, she was bright and alert. Dad gave mom a wedding picture of him and mom. He said that she grabbed the picture and made a face of remembrance and put the picture under her magazine (in a safe place).
When I arrived, mom smiled at me. She was eating dinner (her CNA was feeding her though as dad watched). She looked so good!!! So natural. So alert and bright. The CNA had eaten one of the stuffed mushrooms I made last week and was talking about how good it was. I told him that it was mom’s recipe and that she taught me how to cook. Then I asked mom, “Whose mushrooms are best mom? Mine or yours?” Mom smirked at me and pointed at herself with her index finger!! She is pointing a lot now. We talked and then she was put into bed (this can take up to 20 minutes or more). Dad said he was hungry so Lenny and dad and I went to get something to eat. Dad is feeling really worn out and weepy lately…and very overwhelmed. Please pray for inner peace for dad. After dinner, dad went back to be with mom and then he put her to bed.
