Mom began her day with Claudia. When dad and Aunt Sophie arrived, Claudia and mom were outside!!! This is the first time in over a year that mom has been outside for any length of time--other than on a gurney to and from an ambulette. Mom loved being outside. She was extremely talkative today too! Mom asked Claudia how her brothers were and named them too. She actually TALKED on the phone to cousin Laura, and mom's brothers, Ray and Michael, and their wives!! She also talked to Angelo (the singer cousin from NJ) as well. Mom was joking with many of the CNAs (Claudia said it was a little overboard though but they loved it). Claudia told mom that cousin JoAnn is coming back to NJ/NY next month from Alabama and mom said, "Yeah with a banjo on her knee!" Anthony, Con and the kids saw mom next and Anthony said mom was sooooo on target and talkative!!! Con couldn't believe the difference in a week!! Mom joked with the kids and teased a bit too. She also yelled out an answer to a question that dad couldn't hear---oh, the good old days are back!! HAHAHA!!! Mom used to have to yell a lot in order for dad to hear! Anthony told me many things mom said and did with them all--he said it was awesome and too many things to remember!! They had a great visit with her. Terry was there too again today. When I saw mom tonight, she was awake and happy to see me. I told her John was coming tomorrow night to see her and she said, "Oh...what should we sing?" Mom remembered that Claudia had come to see her this morning and said, "Yes, but she left already. She left earlier today." This is big stuff for mom...her short term memory is lacking grossly. We read the "Love Notes for Dotty" book again and she kept saying, "But how long did I sleep for?" and "You know, if you were to tell me this happened to me I would have to say you are lying because I just don't remember any of this" and "I just can't believe this and I can't remember either." I told her to pray to God to ask Him to recall what she needs to remember and she said, "Oh...I will believe me." then we both prayed. She wanted to hear more and more about what happened to her and more and more stories from the book. She also said that she had been in a "Book of waiting" for a while. I thought that was intriguing. As I read the stories to her, she kept saying, "Oh my God. I never knew people felt like this about me" or "Oh boy, I just don't remember that happening." Sometimes, she even cried at certain entries. I asked her if she wanted to stop reading and she said no...I told her the notes were all blessings to and for her. She loved the book. We didn't finish reading it. She then told me she had been dreaming for a long while. She told me one dream after another (some didn't make sense, but then some dreams don't make sense). For one dream, she began, "I dreamt I made it back home" and in another, she said she was with dad's grandmother and then her great grandmother. She also talked about dreaming about "Al and Rose" and talking to them...these are dad's uncle and aunt --- all of these people are deceased. She couldn't believe all the therapy we all have been doing with her and how much the grandkids did for her. Mom doesn't like to have the mitts on any more either. Dad said that one of the respiratory people said that mom is doing great with the trach capped off. They will decanulate her soon. Which means no more trach. She is off the oxygen too. Mom said, after she read the "Love Notes for Dotty" book, "I don't know what to say. I'm not good at writing but I want to send everyone a thank you note for their....their...gracious prayers and time they gave me." So like mom. As she became overtired, she began to do and say silly things that didn't make sense. I asked if she wanted to go to sleep and she said yes. So we prayed---she made the sign of the cross and I anointed her with oil. I asked if she wanted the TV on and she said no she just wanted to relax and think and sleep.
What a difference. What a miracle she is (I told her that too).
