Mom Update, July 7, 2011, Thursday

Mom’s Update July 7th 2011

Mom was great today. She was sleeping when he got there in the morning. She was awake when he came back. At therapy she was standing holding onto a rod (not stander)!!! Woo Hoo!!! She was supporting her weight! Amen! When dad saw her in the evening she was very talkative. A couple of times dad didn’t hear her and she raised her voice and said, “I’m talking to you!” Mom also read the local paper. She was commenting as she read. The respiratory therapist came in and said she was doing very well. Mom was reading the paper and following along with her finger as she read. The therapist said, “Wow! She is really reading that.” (No kidding we were telling staff that months ago) For some reason reading came back first. This actually makes sense because she has always been a lover of words.

Con went to see mom tonight with Anthony Michael and Michael. Dad and Aunt Sophie were there. Mom was in bed. She was glad to see them. They asked who Michael was and mom said, “Phil.” So Con said, “He looks like Phil.” Mom said, “I know, it’s Michael.” Con said she was talking like she was home and they were visiting. She said, “Alright kids put all your things over here (by the book shelf). Anthony was talking to he and asking her questions – he asked her how to spell words like, cat, water, all the names in the family and then the items in the room. He also asked her simple math problems like – 2+2=, etc. she could do addition but not subtraction. She was very talkative but they couldn’t understand everything. Con asked her who the president was and she said Ronald Regan. He asked what year it was and she said 2002. He asked her what her parent’s names were and she said Katherine and Michael. She knew Poppy’s name and that she had 4 kids. He asked the names of the kids and she only said Anthony! Of course because he is her favorite! (haha). They all said prayers, the Our Father and Hail Mary and she said most of both prayers. She made the sign of the cross and went to bed.

Peace and Love,

~ Claud
