Mom Update, August 24, 2011, Wednesday
Jean began the day with mom this morning. He set her up for the day and talked with her as she ate breakfast. More details on their visit in tomorrow’s blog. Dad and Anthony came to see mom next. They worked on walking and strengthening her leg muscles. For the first time today, MOM STOOD UP ON HER OWN---albeit briefly, Dad stood behind mom and Anthony stood in front of mom and they asked her to stand up and she did it!!! She didn’t stand straight though. Dad said mom did well at OT and Speech and PT today. They used a new lift today to help mom use the toilet---she used the toilet for the first time in over 15 months today!!! The new roommate is calmer and only yells and screams when she wants the nurses.
Lenny put mom to bed tonight. Mom was pretty good when he got there and he brought her rigatoni and red sauce for dinner. She had a hard time picking it up and eating it and even said, “I can’t do this. I give up.” But Lenny encouraged her and she was able to eat it. He said pop was still there and the TV was on and she was watching TV more than she was paying attention to eating. She said it looked and tasted delicious. They talked about work and school and watched TV until it was time for bed.
“Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people.” Philemon 1:7
