Mom Update, August 27, 2011, Saturday

Kathy, Terry, Jo Ann, and I arrived home at 3am from Boston. We drove through the night when we heard that Kathy had to evacuate her home by 8am on the town website. I brought Kathy’s dogs to pop’s house and then went home to sleep for a couple hours. Jean and I woke mom this morning and when we arrived she was sitting up in bed with her tray table in front of her eating her breakfast. We brought her hazelnut coffee which she enjoyed. We brought our breakfast and ate with her. After breakfast I told her stories about our week in Boston and we laughed so hard! The CNA came into the room and dressed mom and put her in her wheel chair. I combed her hair and put her makeup on. I took out her large Tupperware container with all of her makeup and mom said it wasn’t her makeup. I showed her each individually separated baggie with a labeled card in each baggie and said, “Are you kidding? Who else is so organized to label each baggie of makeup?” We laughed!

Jean set up Wheel of Fortune on the wii and showed me how mom was able to spin the wheel. She was very into the game and guessed a few letters. Anthony, Con, Anthony Michael and Con came next. We all sat and told mom some jokes. We were laughing most of the morning. Con ran to Target to get a few things and she bought mom new hangers for her clothes. We were missing some of mom’s clothes and dad found them in a hamper in mom’s bathroom but we didn’t even know that hamper existed, so now we have more clothes than hangers.

Mom’s roommate left to go to the hospital because of a wound on her leg. Mom had no roommate, but they were expecting people who were being reallocated to her facility. Mom had a grilled cheese sandwich and she didn’t eat the mashed potatoes and the veggies. It was a strange combo. They talked and laughed. They left when Lenny came.

K J and L talked with mom for a while and she asked for pop. She thought we were asking for pot roast when they repeated the question back to her. This is good because she has many mis-hearings in the past and this is good because it is like she use to be, when we all went to Sea World years ago we told mom that Claudia kissed a Sea Lion and she thought we said, “Who is senile?” That was many years ago and before this incident! She also asked for a tissue to blow her nose and a napkin to wipe her face, she knows the difference between the two. When they told mom that they were sleeping over she responded, “Do they know?” She had rigatoni and meatballs for dinner and ice cream for dessert.

They had a long talk with the building administrator when they first walked in and he said everything will work out. He told them that she will have someone in the room tonight but they have to wait to hear from Southside Hospital to see how many people they are taking.

Jean's friend had this quote on his Facebook and I loved it, so I am attaching this!

~God has no cell phone, but he's my Favorite contact. He has no Facebook, but he is my best friend. He doesn't have Twitter, but I still follow him. He has no internet,
but we stay connected.

Peace and Love,

Claud
