I began the day with mom. She was sleeping so I let her sleep until breakfast came. Mom said she slept really well last night. I hope so. Her roommate began screaming early in the morning while I was there---not in pain---just screaming. When I got help for the roommate, the roommate didn’t want anything. Mom remembered that Angelo and Madeline came to see her yesterday. She knew as soon as I asked her. When I asked who else came, she needed a few hints, one hint was,”Someone from Alabama” and immediately she said, “Oh yeah, JoAnn came!” I then told her that Bobby and Clara’s son came too and mom said, “Right, Stevie and Donna.” We talked about the laughs we all had and how much fun. Mom had scrambled eggs (called an omelet but there was nothing but a flat egg folded over with nothing in it!!), bacon, cinnamon oatmeal, OJ, coffee with vanilla milk and a slice of whole wheat bread. She ate it all and said the bacon was “delicious.” Whenever mom has oatmeal for breakfast, she makes a face about not wanting to eat it --- so she and I do the skit from the “Little Rascals” – from the episode at the orphanage with the sour milk “Don’t drink the milk.” “Why?” “It’s spoiled!” “You put that milk on your mush and eat it! Bah!!” We laugh then and mom eats it all. Mom drank thickened water today because she said she wanted something cool to drink. She hated it! I told her it was like a 7-11 Slush Puppy and mom said, “Now, that I’d like!!” She called Anthony to have him bring one to her. She talked to everyone. Mom remembered that Sam went to a concert and asked how it was!!!! She also made a joke with Anthony Michael—he said he went to the Bronx Zoo and mom asked if he saw any of our relatives there!!! Mom called cousin, Tom, this morning and talked to him on the phone.
Dad came to be with mom next followed by Anthony and Con and the kids. They listened to Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington on Anthony’s IPOD. They talked and laughed. Mom had turkey, carrots, stuffing and chocolate cake for lunch.
Today was Jean’s graduation party. Sister Suzanne came to be with mom this afternoon so that we could all be together at Claudia and John’s for the party. Sister Suzanne and mom did activities, some of which mom asked her what the point of them were!! Suzanne sometimes did not know the answer to this question so they moved on. Suzanne and mom sang songs and proof read something from church together. Florence came to be with mom and she and Sister Suzanne talked and laughed with mom. Florence shared old stories with mom and mom remembered them --- about all the antics and silly times they had over the years. Florence sang songs and would dub the words with ‘la la la’ and mom would laugh hysterically. They took out cards to play slap jack but Florence forgot how to play the game and mom laughed. They remembered how to play and by the 3rd and 4th round of cards, mom remembered to ‘slap the jack.’ Florence showed mom the calendar and told her and showed her where next Saturday is (mom’s birthday) and told mom the choir would be coming next Sunday to see mom and celebrate her birthday. At the party, cousin Barry, who is a personal trainer, told us many types of strength training exercises to do with mom to build her upper legs, lower back, butt, and abs.
Dad put mom to sleep tonight. More on that tomorrow.
