I started the day with mom. Long story (trying to preserve some dignity) but I had to feed mom her breakfast this morning. I couldn't raise the bed for her to eat. They gave mom only scrambled eggs. When I asked they said we only wanted protein. I explained that oatmeal would be OK. They sent up oatmeal and I doctored it up as I do every morning by putting fiber one, unsweetened apple sauce and some cinnamon. Mom ate the whole thing. I set her up for her day with a crossword puzzle, some scrap paper, a calendar and the phone and remote.
Jean came to spend the day with mom. Dad was going to accompany Anthony somewhere so Jean came to stay with mom. The plans were changed and dad was able to see mom with Jean. Jean told mom about a movie he is in and about an audition he is going on upstate this weekend. He read the comics in the paper and mom laughed. He then read the sports pages with her and he told her about the playoffs. Of course they talked about baseball!
Jean left when mom went to PT. Dad stayed and waited for her. Dad said that mom is doing very well in PT.
John and Samantha came in the evening to put mom to bed. I forgot to mention this yesterday, but mom introduce Kthy to her new roommate and tonight she introduced Sam and John as well. John was impressed at how well mom did this. By the way, her roommate is NORMAL!!! She is so sweet and nice and is leaving Friday. GO figure. Dad left and they stayed. They talked about the movie (John is in it too) and John told her that he was picking up Ava tomorrow night. Mom kept asking him what day it was and what was the date? Mom had a little calendar on her tray so John helped mom put all the family member's birthdays in the calendar. (He amazes me with the ideas he comes up with) Dinner came and mom ate. John encouraged mom to eat all of her fruit. Mom didn't want it but John told her it would help her stomach and so mom ate it all. Mom had stewed tomatoes and mac and cheese. John said she put the mac and cheese in the stewed tomatoes and ate it. i told him that her that she may have thought it was plain macaroni and by dipping it in the stewed tomatoes she was adding sauce.
The CNA's put her to bed and John and Sammy stayed and watched TV with her. A man came in the room and explained that he was her new doctor. Dad switched doctors. He told John he was taking the feeding tube out and that there is no need for it. He asked mom to follow qutie a few commands and mom was able to do it all! The doctor was happy. He is also discontinuing her "heperin" shots. He said she is mobile now and moves enough so there is no need for it. John called me but I didn't answer so he called Kathy to ask her if there was anything he should ask the doctor. The doctor left and John, Sam and mom were all getting tired. John took out her hearing aids, put the timer on the TV and left.
Peace and be well,
~Claud
