Mom Update, October 10, 2011, Monday

Dad began the morning with mom. Mom was up and dressed already and had breakfast already. Pop brought her a donut and she loved it. Dad and mom worked on clocks on the table before her. Dad drew on the large foam clock and made a line down the middle and wrote “before” and “after” on each side. Mom wants to be able to tell time on an analogue clock. She does well with the digital clock, but this doesn’t satisfy mom. Dad told her to forget about the analogue clock and mom said, “But I want to be able to do it BOTH ways!” She has some drive and determination!! Thank God!! They worked on telling time all morning.

Anthony and Samantha came to see mom next. They and dad took mom for a walk around the grounds of the facility. Anthony made pasta and homemade pesto for mom---it looked like a pound--- and mom ate it all!!! She loved it!! I came to see mom and the person at the front desk told me that mom went for a walk with Anthony, Sam and Dad!! Everyone at the facility knows mom and us!! We all sat outside and talked and I put mom’s make up on. John and Claudia joined us all next.

Today, the local newspaper reporters came to do an interview with mom and write about her story. They spent well over an hour with us. We told them all about mom’s story from start to finish. They were amazed with mom and her story. Mom’s friends, Sister Suzanne and Rita, came to see mom during the interview. Mom began to cry when she saw them both. She was so happy and surprised to see them. Terry joined the gang next. We all went upstairs to show the reporters mom’s room next. We showed them all mom’s materials and games and devices…that we made and bought and use to work with mom. They took pictures of mom and all of us for the article. The article will be in the local paper the week of October 20.

Mom had lunch—Anthony’s pesto---after the reporters left. She visited with Rita and Suzanne while she ate. After lunch, she went down to therapy next.Dad and I left and Terry stayed with mom until Con and the kids came back tonight to put mom to bed.
