I began the morning with mom. She was awake and had begun to eat breakfast. She had scrambled eggs, OJ, prune juice, oatmeal, apple/berry sauce and Fiber One cereal. She was happy to see me and commented on my outfit (she always used to do that---tell me how beautiful my outfit is!). Mom and I talked as she ate breakfast. We did the calendar and wrote in her “Memory Book” (this is a book that has a page a day for the date, day, menu, activities, visitors…mom writes in the book as the day progresses and then uses the book as a reference to help her remember what happened today). After mom ate, I set her up with the remote and phone and some activities and left for work.
Mom is getting better and better each day—memory included. Donna made the observation recently that mom had to first relearn everything and now that she has indeed relearned everything, she now has to concentrate on remembering. Mom goes back for a check up at the neurologist on Thursday, the results of the carotid artery scan showed no stenosis (clogs), which is good.
When Anthony came to see mom, he said she was crying a lot that she wants to go home. He tried to work with mom but she gets distracted by her roommate’s TV. She stood a few times but couldn’t straighten up. When Anthony had to leave mom, she was upset that he was leaving. Dad came to see mom next. Dad said that mom did well in her therapies but the physical therapist told him that mom is not yet ready to get rid of the “serita” lift (the machine that helps pull her to a standing position) because she still needs to work a little more on pivoting her feet to turn. The PT said that it would be soon though that mom will be ready to give up the serita lift and just transfer from the wheelchair to the toilet using the bar on the bathroom wall.
Lenny came tonight to put mom to sleep. He said that mom ate dinner and they talked. Then they looked at and read his “Children’s Literature” textbook and made notes in the chapter together. They talked and laughed and watched TV and then he prayed with mom and put her to bed.
Claudia has bronchitis, so please say a prayer for her. She can’t see mom for at least 4-5 days. Mom misses her and asked for her this morning (I am just chopped liver I guess!! Hahaha!!).
