Mom Update, October 20, 2011, Thursday

Mom’s update Thursday, October 20, 2011

Dad started the day with mom. He stayed with mom all day until I came to put mom to bed. Mom was sad when dad left.

I brought some Halloween crafts for mom and I to do. We made 3D foam pumpkin with a witch’s hat. I made a mark on the pumpkin with a sharpie to show her where to put the face pieces. She did well with the small pieces. We also made a spider out of pom poms and pipe cleaners. Mom squeezed the glue bottle for the spider legs. We also made two foam jack-o-lanterns. Mom looked at the picture on the package and made the exact same pumpkin following the corresponding colors.

I also brought Mad Libs. She did very well and understood a noun, verb, and adjective. The only thing is that she kept repeating the same noun over and over (she did the same with the adjective. It is as if she could name one but then couldn’t get it out of her head. Dinner came (salami sandwich, green bean salad, and ice cream). We wrote down what she had for dinner in her memory book. She wrote ALAMI sandwich, TRING bean salad. She left off the first letter “S” on salami and string. It was weird. I notice that if she spelled a word aloud first then she writes it perfectly, but if she just starts writing she makes mistakes.

After dinner she said, “You have something called Logic Links?” At first I didn’t understand her. She said it again. I told her yes and asked if she wanted to play it? She said, “OK.” This is the first time that I know of that she requested to do a specific activity! She probably read the box on the shelf, but she showed interest.

Mom was put in bed. I turned down the lights and took out her hearing aids. She settled in and even closed her eyes for a while. We watched TV and talked. I said a prayer with her and kissed her goodnight.

Peace and Be Well,

Well.....the "article" on mom came out in the local newspaper today and guess what? It was actually an ADVERTISEMENT for the facility!!!! I had the feeling they would do this but always hope for the best. The entire experience was done in such a sneaky, underhanded way too. That's what gets us the most. The 2 people who took the picture and took the information for the article came from the parking lot that day (they actually work for the facility)!! They NEVER told us anything other than, mom's story was miraculous and they wanted to have someone come to write an article for the local newspaper. They even took the picture of our family and put it in a 1/4 page AD in the newspaper!!! AND they quoted me as saying things I never said. They misconstrued my words to their advantage. The article is small on the opposite page from the ad and really says that the facility is responsible for mom's recovery, but we, as a family, just followed their lead!! Phoey!! Oh well. I called both the respiratory person who initiated all this, as well as the "reporter" and only was able to speak to the reporter. I let the reporter know how disillusioned we were and how bamboozled as well!! I said we never gave consent to use our family photo in an ad publicizing the facility. Unbelievable. Oh well....wait til the book comes out!!! Hahahaha!!!
