Mom’s update, Wednesday, October 26, 2011
I started the day with mom. She was sad again. She really wants to come home, but she can be distracted. I set her up for her day and gave her breakfast. She wasn’t very hungry this morning and didn’t finish her eggs or her cereal. I put Good Morning America on for her. She kept saying, “You’re going? You can’t stay?” I felt terrible, but I had to go to work. I left her a crossword puzzle, some magazines, our phone numbers and the phone and remote. She was OK when I left.
Mom went downstairs to the dentist today. She had her teeth cleaned.
Dad and Anthony came and had her standing. Dad said they even had her take a few steps. John had bought her a plastic sun catcher because mom loves stained glass. He thought it would be a good fine motor activity for her. Anthony and dad painted it with her! John was so happy to see it was painted and hung up when he went to mom’s tonight. Mom’s friend Maureen came to visit mom.
John came in the evening and played dominos with her. Mom loved it. He gave her 5 dominos that he knew could be connected and had her make a chain. He then gave her three at a time that he knew could connect to the original chain. He said before he knew it, mom had 25 dominos in a chain. She played this for a long time. John also played Mad Libs with mom. He said she was thinking of some silly words! John had her write down what she ate for dinner and at the bottom he made her write that her “good looking son-in-law was here.” Mom was put in bed and John stayed with her until she was sleepy. Mom kept saying, “I’m sorry you have to stay here” and “you should go home.” When I am with mom she says that I better go home because John probably doesn’t know where I am!
John said a prayer and gave her a kiss goodnight.
Peace and Be Well,
