I started the day with mom. Yesterday I asked her what she wanted to be for Halloween and she said a witch. She said, “I have a witches hat at home can you bring it in?” So I brought her hat! She was sleeping when I arrived. I woke her up and fixed the room (raised the blinds, etc.) I had a CNA help me fix her in the bed. I gave her breakfast and made her oatmeal (fiber one and applesauce). I placed the hat on her head and she got a kick out of everyone’s face when they saw her. I put Regis on and she watched the Halloween show. I told her that Jo Ann was coming later. I set up her tray with her phone, remote, magazines and her notebook and pencil.
Jo Ann came and soon after they made her leave so they could get mom out of bed, cleaned and dressed. Shortly after she came back in the room OT took her for therapy. She came back from OT and lunch was there. She had a hot dog on a bun, (yes Debbie, she had hot dogs!) sauerkraut and beans. My friend Debbie and my mom have a long standing joke that every time Debbie was over for dinner as a kid we had hot dogs! (Angelo has the same joke with mom – must be some truth!) After lunch mom was taken to PT. Jo Ann did get a chance to call Madeline (Jo Ann’s mom) and Anthony. Dad came when lunch was being served. Jo Ann said mom was in good spirits and alert and funny as ever.
Dad stayed with mom until John came. John came before dinner was served. He loved her witch’s hat! John brought her healthy fruit snack for trick or treat. He had mom say trick or treat and he gave them to her. She got a kick out of it. They read the paper together. Dinner came and John cut up her food and gave her a hand. She had pizza, salad and peaches. After dinner he had mom write down,
Monday, October 31, 2011 Today is Halloween. I ate pizza, garden salad, and peaches for dinner. My handsome son-in-law brought me candy for trick or treat!
John took out the dominos and played dominos with mom. He said she almost expects it now. He said he wants to think of something else to do because it is becoming too predictable. Mom was put in bed and John came back in the room and sat with her. Mom kept telling him to go home, that it was late. John said a prayer with her and left.
Peace and Be Well,
