Mom Update, October 8, 2011, Saturday

Mom’s update Saturday, October 8, 2011

I started the day with mom. She was awake when I came in the room. She asked me to fix her in the bed. I pulled her up in the bed and raised the bed to a sitting position. I cleaned her hearing aids and put them in and fixed her breakfast. After breakfast the CNA came in the room and washed her up and got her dressed for the day. I gave mom a calendar worksheet to do. She needed some prompting. I showed her the back cover of the NY Post. It said “Three Stooges” in big letters and had a picture of Moe, Larry and Curly (all Yankees – A-Rod, Texeira, and Swisher!). She laughed! I hung it on John’s picture (the big one on the back of the door. We filled out her memory book with the date and what she ate for breakfast. I also had her write down that there is no PT today because she keeps asking when PT is coming to take her. She was a little confused today. I brought her an insulated cup with flowers on it for her water. She was asking for water and I directed her toward tha new cup. She said, “I can’t drink from that. What is that?” I told her it was a cup that I bought her and she said I don’t drink from that (meanwhile she already drank from it many times that morning). I told her I would take a picture of her drinking form it to show her. I did. I showed her drinking from it and she looked at the picture. I told her she had been drinking from it all morning. She said OK and never brought it up again.

I took out the Ipad and we did the speech and language apps from a speech catalog that I downloaded for her. One was a category app. She loves doing this activity and she did very well. She always says something funny when we do this app. She also did the “Pragmatics” app. It ahs various questions about specific scenerios. One picture was that of a mother and child in a car. The child looked sick. The question was, “The child is sick, where is the mother taking him?” Mom said to school, he isn’t really sick! Then she laughed! (inside joke – I use to fake being sick so I didn’t have to go to school! I use to give my parents a very hard time going to school – I know, I know…so I became a teacher, right!) I switched activitied and mom said, “Let’s go back to the other game.” We then played hangman. Mom wasn’t really interested.

Mom then watched a little TV with her roommate. She and her husband were watching an old western. Mom was really interested in the movie. Mom and I had lunch together. Mom had a corned beef sandwich, potato salad and fruit. Mom ate all of her lunch. I gave mom an English grammar booklet that I had and she was fascinated. She couldn’t put it down. I set up her tray and left. Terry came shortly after.

I didn’t get a chance to talk to Terry about their evening so I will include what happened in tomorrows email.

Peace and Love,

~Claud
