Mom Update, November 6, 2011, Sunday

I started the day with mom and when I got there I saw tissues all over the floor on the side of the bed. I asked her if she was crying and she said yes. I lifted the blinds and told her not to cry because God made a beautiful day today and that she should look outside. I fixed her in the bed and cleaned her hearing aid and placed it in her ear. I brought her Dunkin Donuts Coffee. Her breakfast came and I set up her tray and fixed her cereal. She ate everything on the tray. I brought her the Sunday paper. I gave her the Fan Fare section (her favorite). She read a story about a Soprano and said that she is also a Soprano. (She understood what she was reading) I showed her a few puzzles and with some prompting she was able to get the puzzles. She had to go to the bathroom so I rang for the CNA’s and she started to try to get out of bed. I removed the side bumper and I placed her shoes on while we were waiting. She actually swung her right leg off the bed. I had to tell her to wait. They came in and she couldn’t stand. She had a very difficult time standing and pivoting. The CNA’s are not her regular CNA’s and they may have not known the right verbal cues. They finally got her in the bathroom and she couldn’t stand at the bar. They practically lifted her from the wheel chair onto the toilet. They were frustrated.

Once mom was in her wheel chair I did a calendar worksheet with her. I then gave her the journal and she wrote the following. I didn’t realize what she was writing until she was done.

Claudia was here, she’s just like German Gestapo Malor (Major). I had a cleaning tooth cleaning and a body cleaning. I am waiting for dad to come. He probably has to do a load of errants (errands) for everybody. I’m told I will be going home soon, but I am also told that so many times before. I’ll believe it when I see it. Claudia is sitting in front of me and (backward d) and she looks like a baralized (paralyzed) person. She is staring into space. (an arrow that points to paralyzed person and into space)
Claudia’s (My) roommate is an nice oild (old) adie (lady) lady who’s granttaugher (granddaughter) is Claudia’s teacher at St. Joe’s (Claudia is the grandaughter’s teacher)

I told mom that Anthony and Con were on their way. She wrote the following:

Dear Anthony, Con, Anthony Samantha,

I just want to say how grateful I am for all you’ve done for me everyone, Lenny, Jean Samantha, Claudia, Faty (Kathy) Anthony Samantha Ava Con Anthony Terry John and Dad for all you’ve done for me. Just being here in the morning and being with me (with me) at night and for my girls especially for making me look nice and especially my girls Kathy Claudia Ava Samantha Con for helping me to look nice love mom.

Anthony, Con, Anthony Michael and Samantha came to see mom. She was writing when they came and everyone stayed quiet to let her finish. I then took out a worksheet that concentrated on the days of the week and months of the years as well as the vocabulary; monthly, yearly, and daily. She did great. Anthony couldn’t believe how great she was doing. At one point the question asked what day is three days after Tuesday and Anthony and I were using our fingers and thinking in our head and mom had the answer already! We were cracking up that we used our fingers!

Anthony took mom into the bathroom and just practiced standing at the bar. Mom stood holding the bar totally independently 2x (I think she did more but I had to leave). The nurse was outside the door and I had her come in to see. She was very compassionate and said, “Maybe it’s the male voice!” (her PT is a male). They took mom outside for some fresh air and to go for a walk. Mom wrote about going outside.

Dad came to see mom and I think he also went outside with Con, Anthony and the kids.

Later she wrote the following:

1/6 20/11 breakfats (breakfast) breakfast coffee sausage patty lunche meatloaf mash potatoes pees and carrots. Samantha Anthony Con Samantha Jean and Jean Samantha. We went outside and walked beautiful beautiful coloris (colors) red maple. We watch TV.

Lenny and Kathy came and she talked a long time with Lenny. She was very excited to see him. She talked on the phone to Uncle Ray and then to Uncle Michael and Aunt Pat.

Dad worked with mom today. He worked on leg exercises. He had her do leg lifts and then bend her legs up and down. Dad is still with mom. He will be putting her to bed.

Peace and Be Well,

~Claud (again – we will let everyone know the date of discharge and anyone who wants to be there is welcome!)
